Nose

Jamie knocked this ‘Rocks District’ Syrah out of the park! A masculine bouquet of black and blue fruits, wet stone, butcher’s blood, violets, and earth notes.

Palate

Medium to full bodied, with a plush mouthfeel that coats the entire mouth. The complexity and length of this Syrah is impressive with layers of juicy plums, star anise, black pepper, and sandalwood.

Growing Conditions

Waterstone Vineyard was planted in 2016. The vineyard totals 5.4 acres of Syrah, Cabernet Franc, and Viognier. The soils are cobble mixed with wind-blown silt and loam. Located right in the heart of ‘The Rocks District’ of Milton-Freewater. A fan trained vine site with beautiful fruit, 2018 is third leaf fruit in which we are pleasantly surprised with the quality of the first fruit to come off this vineyard. We’re looking forward to working with this vineyard as it develops.

Winemaking

"2018 is third leaf fruit which means the first fruit off of the vines. I was expecting to fight early ripening due to the fact that they are such young vines with inconsistent fruit set, and that did not happen. The larger trellis system worked and we ended up picking in the first week of October which provided a richer wine without being uber ripe. Waterstone exceeded my expectations for its first vintage and confirmed my belief in this site and our farming practices for this site.” - Jamie Brown, Winemaker
