Nose
The nose of the wine is classic for Sangio with black cherries, cherry liqueur, subtle oak notes, strawberries, plums, and floral aromatics.
Palate
The palate has sweet, intense-soft fruit, backed with spice. A wonderful creaminess balances perfectly the ample tannin and acid backbone. A truly enjoyable wine.
Growing Conditions
The growing season was perfect for Sangiovese, and ripening coincided perfectly with Cabernet Sauvignon, allowing us the unusual opportunity to “co-ferment” a small amount of Cabernet along with our Sangio, creating greater complexity and density.
Winemaking
We pulled out all the stops viticulturally in 2004, producing perhaps our finest Sangio (along w/ 2003) to date, and only wish we had more.
Aging
Aged in new French oak puncheons and 30 hectoliter ovals for 14 months.
Appearance
We have had great success coaxing more than usual color from this fickle grape; you will notice this right away in its brilliant but saturated ruby hue.
