Nose

The nose leads with smoked game, sage, thyme, iron, and a Mediterranean hint of olive.

Palate

Smoked game, meat, sage, thyme, a hint of green olive, lush tannin, building tannin, great acidity, mouth filling, long finish, well balanced.

As with the nose, the wine is dynamically changing and evolving in the glass and an absolute pleasure. Another great vintage in the valley!

Growing Conditions

Our estate, Lefore, is named after the previous family that farmed apples on the site and sits on the eastern edge of the Rocks District AVA within the Walla Walla Valley. This side is a bit higher in elevation, and seems to have more cobblestones—hard to imagine! These vines were planted in the late 1990’s making it one of the oldest vineyards in the area also and the vineyard itself has taken over as a dominate force in our Doubleback wines. Taken from two separate blocks in the vineyard.

Winemaking

We made this wine in a hands off style to highlight the site. I absolutely love the type of tannin that this vineyard expresses in every wine it produces- lavishly built, lush, with great lively acidity unbeknownst in the area at times.

Aging

17 months in 27% new French oak Puncheons and barrels, aged sur lie. 75% whole cluster.
