Nose
Exotic aromas of lime blossoms, crushed rocks, citrus and pink pepper corn
with spicy floral notes.
Palate
Bright acidity with flavors of lemon, lime and grapefruit
leading into guava and fresh peach.
Growing Conditions
Bloxom Slope Vineyard, Columbia Valley — A new vineyard planted exclusively
to Grüner Veltliner situated at 1,000 feet of elevation with loess soils. The vineyard
lies east of Yakima and north of the Rattlesnake Hills.
• 2017 was overall a moderate year delaying harvest by about a week
• The vintage started with a cool, wet spring with bud break occurring
in early April
• Bloom occurred in early June catching up with the long-term averages
• August temperatures were slightly warmer than average increasing
fruit maturation with cooler nights to retain natural acids
Harvest
• Balboa’s harvest started on September 13th lasting through the end
of October
• Hand-harvested grapes
Bottling
• Cross-flow filtration prior to bottling
• Bottling date: February 22, 2018
Winemaking
• Picked early in the morning and whole cluster pressed to stainless steel
• Primary fermentation took place in stainless steel at low temperatures
• Following fermentation, aged in stainless steel for 6 months until bottling
