Nose

This Syrah shows vivid aromas of blueberry, dark chocolate and little accents of cherry on the nose. Definite nuances of orange peel, rose petal and lavender bring brightness and finesse to this wine, leading to a beautiful floral element. Warm, subtle oak nuances, along with savory hints of bacon, create more intensity and depth on the bouquet.

Palate

The round and pleasant mouth feel delivers dark berry fruits, lingering throughout the palate, framed by great acidity and ample tannin. The initial taste is “sweet” and intense, but yet soft and elegant in the finish.

Growing Conditions

In 2015 we experienced a warm summer and extended growing season that paved the way for ripe, jammy fruit, especially from our Double River Estate Vineyard. Cropped at a low yield for intensity and quality, Block 8 Syrah showed tons of personality and expression.

Vineyard: Double River Vineyard 87.5%, McKinley Springs Vineyard 12.5%

Winemaking

Double River Vineyard Syrah was blended with a small portion of McKinley Springs Syrah to bring out even more intriguing nuances. The dark berry fruit from Block 8, along with the perfumy Syrah from McKinley Springs delivered a deep and aromatic wine. A significant amount of Cabernet Sauvignon from our Double River Vineyard was blended with this expressive and “pretty” Syrah to beef up the tannin profile, ensuring even more structure and balance in the bottle.

Aging

This Syrah aged in neutral French oak for about 20 months, 25% New.

Food Pairing

his Syrah will pair well with braised lamb shank with red wine sauce, pork roast, smoked Gouda or lavender infused chocolate cake.
